Excerpt The state visits between the two Royal Families were numerous in the early 20th century. They were marked by a rigorous respect of the diplomatic protocol and the court’s etiquette. They would be organized precisely by the Foreign Affairs Ministers ahead of time and would represent an important item on the internal agenda. The first such event was at Nicholas II coronation, in 1896, which crown prince Ferdinand attended. Two years later Carol I conducted a state visit, which took place on July the 16th 1898. In 1908 the Heir to the throne, Ferdinand attended the marriage of Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna with Prince Wilhelm of Sweden. Then followed the visit of Grand Duke Nicolai Mihailovici in Bucharest in 1912, returned in March 1914 by prince Heir Ferdinand and King Carol. Tsar Nicholas II came to Romania, to Constanta, on June the 1st 1914, for a last visit.
