Excerpt | A lot of people still believe that manipulating the public opinion is typical for dictatorships. That there is no propaganda in capitalist regimes. That everything which appears in newspapers is true. There is nothing farther from the truth. Almost one hundred years ago, in a Bucharest newspaper appeared the letter of an offended husband. Without making the slightest verifications, and especially without giving the other party - Ion Livescu - the possibility to present his own variant, especially since he was a public person, two other newspapers published, based on the letter, tough, virulent articles against him. Although the police investigation proved that the one considered guilty by the newspapers and presented as such in their articles, was not really guilty, not a single article retracting the news which could have ruined a man's life and career was ever published. |
