Excerpt The process of political purge of the local public administration in the 1948 Romania was based on three components: social, wealth status and political. These three components represented the essential elements in the process of personnel clearance during 1948 and in the subsequent dismissing of those considered inappropriate to the doctrinaire principles and to the specific ideology of the totalitarian left extreme. At not even 2 years from the November 1946 „elections”, the Communist Party from Romania, instrument of the Soviet Union, was obtaining the total control over the Romanian society. The Constitution, entered into force on the 13 of April 1948, based on the model of the soviet Constitution of 1936, was the one that attested whatever had been institutionalised by the Communist Party, between 6 of March and 24 of February 1948, with the aim of imposing, with the political and military support of the Soviet Union, the “popular democracy” regime, a regime that negatively marked, for half of the century, the evolution of an European nation by tradition, the Romanian nation. The new political formation emerging from the “fusion” of the Romanian Communist Party and the Social-Democrat Party, that integrally assumed the extreme left totalitarian ideology, required that, within the local public administration structures, there was no active form of opposition at all, the co- operativisation of the agriculture representing the sole aim of the communists, in reality a poverty rising up to the disappearance of the wealthy peasants, catalogued in the official documents and discourses as being “chiaburi”, as illustrated by the archive documents of 1948.
