At the end of 1916 and the beginning of 1917, four employees of the American embassy to Germany were sent to inspect some German prisoner-of-war camps, where there were also Romanian soldiers. The documents, which are transcribed in this article and which also contain information about the condition of Romanian prisoners, were sent by the American ambassador to Berlin to the American envoy to Romania and were then translated into Romanian and handed in to Emanoil Porumbaru, the Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister. |
